Itinerary
Morning: The Forgotten Capital of Koh Ker
7:00 AM: Depart from Siem Reap, heading north toward Koh Ker, the ancient city that once stood as the Khmer Empire’s capital in the 10th century. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours through scenic countryside, where quiet villages and lush greenery set the tone for the day’s exploration.
9:30 AM: Arrive at Koh Ker and begin your discovery with Prasat Thom, the striking seven-tiered pyramid that rises dramatically amidst the jungle. Climb to its summit for panoramic views of Cambodia’s untouched wilderness.
10:30 AM: Stroll through Koh Ker’s lesser-known temples, such as Prasat Pram, where tree roots elegantly embrace crumbling towers, and Prasat Neang Khmau, the mysterious “Black Lady Temple.”
Midday: A Taste of Local Flavors
12:00 PM: Enjoy a well-earned lunch at a local restaurant near Koh Ker. Savor traditional Cambodian dishes—perhaps a fragrant fish amok, fresh stir-fried vegetables, or a hearty serving of beef lok lak—before setting off for the next leg of your adventure.
Afternoon: The Jungle Temple of Beng Mealea
1:00 PM: Drive west to Beng Mealea, an enigmatic temple swallowed by nature, tucked within dense forests.
2:30 PM: Explore Beng Mealea’s sprawling ruins, where moss-covered stones and collapsed galleries tell the tale of a once-grand structure now lost to time. Step through corridors draped in vines, listening to the sounds of nature that now dominate this forgotten masterpiece.
4:00 PM: Begin your journey back to Siem Reap, making a stop along the way for a refreshing coconut drink or a taste of traditional Cambodian sweets.
6:00 PM: Arrive back in Siem Reap, carrying with you the memories of Cambodia’s hidden treasures—its silent temples, its jungle-clad wonders, and the echoes of an ancient empire.
